SURFACE STRUCTURE The interpretation of LEED patterns observed after oxygen adsorption on the platinum group metals is complicated by the uncertainty as to whether the periodicity seen is a true reflection of the adsorbate or is due to a mixed adlayer produced by a surface reconstruction.
